Wood + Straw House

This project supports talented owner-builders in bringing their dream home to life on a compact urban lot in Providence’s Federal Hill neighborhood. Yu assisted with the design, planning, and permitting process, while construction was carried out primarily by the owners with help from members of Building Circle, a local builders’ cooperative.

The home features natural materials throughout, including hand-applied clay plaster and clay paint. Clay plaster workshops, taught by Emily Wang of Biolithic Build and hosted by the Providence Preservation Society, invited the community to participate in the building process. Locally milled wood was used to frame the kitchen ceiling and accent other parts of the space.

The project is currently under construction.
