The design centers on a thoughtfully planned galley kitchen that maximizes space while complementing the home’s existing character. A pantry houses the stacked washer and dryer, a refrigerator, and floor-to-ceiling storage accessed by a library ladder. The countertop behind the sink extends into the garden window to create additional workspace. A much needed broom closet was incorporated across from the sink. Cabinet hardware was salvaged from the San Pedro Environmental Water Monitoring Laboratory rebuild, adding a distinctive reused element to the space. At the end of the kitchen, a cozy breakfast nook provides a comfortable place to sit. Filled with natural light throughout the day, the kitchen is a pleasure to cook in.
